Position Summary   The Cardiothoracic Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Heart Institute is an advanced practice nurse who provides nursing and medical services to patients throughout the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery service line: Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit, Cardiothoracic Acute Ward, and Pre/post-operative Clinics. The NP works collegially with the surgeons emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, as well as diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases.

Services include but are not limited to ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and non-pharmacologic therapies in a cost - efficient manner. Works autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage clients’ health care problems. Serve as health care resources, interdisciplinary consultants and patient advocates. Demonstrates commitment to a patient and family focused model of care.

Minimum Qualifications: Three years pediatric RN experience preferred. 

Education/Licensure/Certifications: Master’s Degree in Nursing required. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for “hold out as a Nurse Practitioner” as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code. Current California Registered Nurse License and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Current BCLS certification required. National certification as appropriate - preferred. Eligible for Furnishing License - required.
