It’s Work That Matters.

Provides ongoing leadership, guidance, and support to the Operational Excellence department, in unison with the Operational Excellence Program Manager. Makes decisions and provides employee and organizational guidance based on evidence-based practices and process improvement disciplines including but not limited to PDCA, LEAN and DMAIC methodologies.

CHLA is looking for a Wound Ostomy Continence (WOC) nurse to provide a high quality and compassionate wound, ostomy, and continence nursing care to all patient populations throughout the care continuum in a manner that incorporates patient and family focused model of care. The WOC nurse functions independently and collaboratively as an expert clinician, role model, and patient/family advocate in the specialty, guided by our mission to create hope and build healthier futures.

Essential Functions:
The essential functions listed below are general examples and not a description of comprehensive duties.

  • Acts as expert resource in patient care issues related to wound, ostomy and continence problems
  • Provides wound, ostomy, and continence evaluation, treatment recommendation and follow-up in the inpatient and outpatient settings. 
  • Educates patients and family on wound, ostomy, and continence care management.
  • Documents clearly the plan of care, education, specific steps in care, including products and how they are to be used.
  • Partners with nursing staff, physicians, and support personnel to provide interdisciplinary wound, ostomy, and continence care management. 
  • Provides real-time education to all staff members to improve their wound, ostomy, and continence care skills.
  • Develops and teaches educational programs for healthcare team members on wound, ostomy, and continence care management.
  • Promotes Evidence Based Practice and Research and participates as appropriate.
  • Evaluates new and currently used products for ostomy, continence, and wound care.
  • Partners with Value Analysis to make recommendations for products and supplies, and facilitates implementation of these products, using best practice and financial data
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to maintain and acquire new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing and/or WOC nursing, and utilizes them to improve individual, team, and organizational performance.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience, pediatric experience preferred
  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS and PALS certification
  • Current CWOCN certification preferred. Will consider a candidate with CWON or CWCN certification but must complete the CWOCN certification within 6 months of hire.  
  • May consider a candidate without CWOCN certification who is currently enrolled in a WOCN® accredited program. Must complete the program within 6 months of hire. Must obtain the CWOCN certification within 1 year of hire.
